What Memorial Day Means to Me
Memorial Day to me means celebrating and honoring those who risked their lives to help, protect,
and save the people of this country and other countries. A day set aside just to celebrate those
you know or, more often, those you do not know who help us at home and all over the world every
day. It is a day all about being thankful for those willing to risk their lives for our families
and their families.
To me, it also means a day to celebrate and remember those who have lost their
lives and to honor their families who waited bravely at home the whole time. It is a special day
to pray for those who lost their lives but, also, pray for those who witnessed a friend’s life
being lost in the name of bravery and duty. This day is a time to remember and cherish the lives
of those people injured or scarred in battle, whether their wounds are visible or invisible.
Memorial Day is not just a time to be sad; it is so much more than that. It is a time to thank
those who served, to cherish the families of these brave men and women, and honor those who lost
their lives protecting our country and other countries. If we are just sad, I think we lessen their
sacrifices and make it seem like their cause was not so worthy. What could be a better cause than
to protect our country and democracy? Just being sad, honors their death more than their life, and
these peoples’ lives are worth learning from. All of this is what Memorial Day means to me.
